Dennis Rainey: Do you ever have trouble coming up with a good gift for Mother's Day?

Guest: “This year for Mother’s Day, I’m getting my mom a salt block – the gift of minerals. It outlasts flowers, it lasts almost a year, helps her health, and – when she licks it all up – I can get her the same thing next year. It’s perfect for the mother that has everything.”[ Read Full Transcript ]

Dennis Rainey: Weird! Wouldn't you like to know the relationship he has with his mom? Well, you know, I realize it can be frustrating to find the right gift for your mom on Mother’s Day, but a salt block!?

Well, let me tell you about the best Mother's Day gift I've ever given my mom. When my dad had died suddenly, I had pledged that I would not wait until my mom was gone to express my feelings of love and appreciation for her. I wanted to give her something personal. Meaningful.

So, in the winter of 1984, I began working on a written Tribute to my mom. I had it framed in a black wooden frame. She called me when she received it and asked, "Is this about me?" Emotion choked her voice.

One final thought: why don’t you write your mom a Tribute? It may be the best Mother's Day gift she'll ever receive.

I’m Dennis Rainey, and that is Real FamilyLife.
